Has anyone heard of McLaren EMS education in Michigan, or has anyone attended? I'm researching medic schools, it would be great to hear feedback!

Sorry I didn't see this before.

I am going there now. I absolutely love everything about the program. The instructor is extremely knowledgeable and there are so many resources available.

Also you can't beat the price and payment plan.

There is a medic class starting in October. It will be the last one before all of the requirements change and it becomes a million times harder!

PM me if you need any more info. I am about half way done.

Why will it be harder?

No, more like about time

Im guessing what he really means is actually up to current CoAEMSP standards

Harder in the sense of clinical hours and price. The price is going to double.

Right now since we will be grandfathered in, it isn't as bad.

I don't think it is a bad thing at all. But for us it is going to be really hard to do clinicals around here after the first.

All preceptor sites will have to go through the preceptor training and 5 companies have already refused to do so.

I didn't mean to sound like it was bad, but I would still prefer to take it this year rather than next.

I think it kinda worked out well for the teachers as well.

He gets his Masters paid for, since it has to be done by the end of next year.

And the other instructor will have his bachelors done.

I go there now for the medic program that started this summer. I had an account on here from spring but I can't remember my password. I wanted to spread the good word about McLaren Oakland EMS so I made a new account.

The instructors are great guys with good field experience. Class size is small and a lot of times both instructors are there with us. They use the IPad 2 for class testing and E-Books (all costs included in your tuition and you keep IPad 2 forever as long as you've paid tuition to cover it). Clinical uniforms are included in tuition, customized stethoscope ... Literally everything even NEW hard copies of all your medic textbooks that you keep forever too. Basically you put your deposit down then they break then remaining tuition into 12 payments (no interest).

Aside from the technical aspect; the instructors provide you with opportunities for early study sessions, a wealth of information on their student website, well organized lectures with PowerPoint...the works! What I like is that they don't make the classroom so rigid where you feel uncomfortable making jokes or asking for a break, its friendly and the staff is very accommodating with personal issues.

I recommend their next Medic program that I hear starts in October, good luck.

But just to be clear. The program in Pontiac is NOT related to the one in flint.

Yeah, because the OP didn't specify which McLaren Program I thought I would add my $0.02! :D

Right. I just wanted to point out what I was saying was about the one in Flint.

I hear the one in Pontiac is a good program. A lot of people I work with are going there right now.
