Man in diabetic stupor drives off with ambulance

An unidentified male, apparently in a diabetic stupor, stole an American Medical Response ambulance Wednesday night from St. Francis North Hospital and started driving back to his Morehouse Parish home.

Morehouse Parish Sheriff’s Office Maj. Keith Robertson said an anonymous caller reported an ambulance was heading north on U.S. 165 driving all over the road.

Robertson said deputies first spotted the ambulance outside the Bastrop city limits and a chase ensued.

I swear, AMR needs to install some sort of Bio-metric ID system in their rigs... get stolen way too often.

I was involved in the theft of an AMR rig once... kinda. If you and your partner are going to take the neonatal rig on a 3 hour trip and leave your primary rig in the hospital parking lot, DO NOT leave the keys in the ignition with the windows rolled down.

3 hours. Windows down. Keys in it. Public place... What? Do you really expect your fellow employees not to "steel" the rig and park it at a nother hospital just to give you a justified scare?

Oh, and if you are stupid ones who have your rig "stolen", do not call the Highway Patrol before you call your supervisor. The CHP gets kinda mad when you put out a fake BOLO.

NOTE: I was not the stupid ones, or the steelers. I was an observer.

Why not call the Police first? We'll call them on the common frequency and let them know someone is trying to make off with our equipment! Whether it be just some needles or our WHOLE truck!
