Hey all,

I just passed the NREMT written exam a few days ago. As I was patting myself on the back, however, the congratulations message said that my certification is not a license to practice.

:censored:

What in the world does this mean? Massachusetts just switched to a National Certification...type...thing as I took the class. The state EMS website is a broken, fractal mess of unhelpful PDFs that all can't answer my one question:

What in the world do I do next?

Anybody here a Massachusetts EMT student/candidate/instructor that can shine a light on this?

The nr card is not a license to practice it is a certification showing you passed their test.

The am applications forms have not been updated to my knowledge so you fill out the old one as much as you can then submit your nr certs.

Thanks for the quick reply. Do you mean this form here? This is the best I could find and I swear I filled one of these out back in May when this whole ordeal of a process started.

I just got my MA cert. They just changed over to national registry 2 months ago so I'm sure they're still working out the kinks... When I did it, the form you linked did not exist so I had to apply with the "out of state" form.

Looks like the form you linked is what you want. Fill it out, send them $150 check and you're good to go I think?

You can always give OEMS a call if you have questions.

I remember filling out a form like the one I posted before taking my MA practical exam. Maybe my instructor collected our forms ahead of time.

I'll call him tomorrow and make sure I need to send the form out. Not like it'd get delivered (or even picked up) today anyway.

Do you remember filling out a similar looking form before your practical exam?

Actually, I think you're right. Definitely call up your instructor.

I did have some deja vu when filling out the form but didn't think too hard about it and just sent it in.

I recently met someone who took the EMT class at the same place as me, one month later. The way it worked for him was that all he had to do was notify the school that he had passed the written test, and they sent in the application for him. I think the reason they didn't do this for my class is that we were the first class to fall under the new guidelines, so they weren't sure how the process was going to work.

Where did you take the EMT class? I seem to remember paying and submitting an application on like the last week of class. I took my class at Cape Cod Comm. College.

I took my class at UMass Amherst. So after speaking with my instructor and OEMS, I was told to submit the form and required documents, and to attach a copy of the $150 check I've already submitted.

We'll see if they manage to keep everything straight and send me my license.
