I suppose if that's the way you 'play', stealing other squads equipment; then if your stuff sucks, you should immediately replace it with new stuff. You can always sand off imprinted names, etc; even on plastic board. The best ones to get a five finger discount on are the ones with only stickers. Magic marker rubs off with lighter fluid or goo gone mixed with clorox. Then if you don't want it stolen, you put your name/address on key positions where they wouldn't look. That way, at some point, you will eventually get it back. Otherwise, they can claim it on insurance and get something new. I always did that with crappy KED's, send them on a chopper, you never see them again. Hence the need to buy a new one. Same with the Reeves Sleeve!

Did you like the Reeves Sleeve?? We have one at school, they use it for ATLS to show the docs something they might see.... once....

I don't STEAL other squads stuff, I will borrow Long boards and Reeve's from hospitals when I leave mine.... they always come back, just not always to that hospital.....

What I love is when I try to get a "borrowed" board off of a truck, and a provider tells me "that is my board" Ignoring the big old "Station XX, ______ Ambuance" on the top of the board.

Although, if someone were to, say, forget an O2 cylinder, I might borrow it for myself.... you never know when having lots of o2 would be good!!!!

All of our O2 cylinders had neon orange cordura sleeves. Nobody ever stole the cylinders, but there are dozens of companies with new cylinder sleeves. conventional CID blocks... another big ticket item when it comes to "borrowing". we used blankets rolled up and med-duct taped. Kept ten of those on a rig, duct taped a towel to the board to keep the blankets in place. That is white duct tape, not gray.

I've seen people reuse the cardboard ones, covered with blood - not from their patient, and w/ the blanket rolls, er just throws them out. So that makes less for people to borrow. B/c you never know if you'll see it again when it gets borrowed. We had a brand new bariatric board mailed back to us from Wisconsin...

It was sent to TJU in Philly, from there it went on JeffStat to some place in Virginia, and after that it made its way to a hospital in or near Waukesha, Wi... Thats where the return address was posted

REALLY!!!!!??????!!!???!??!?!?!?!?!??!? :o

TJUH is very good about shipping things back, and they are shipped at least weekly, usually daily.... often "overnight" delivery, too!

I used to work with JeffSTAT. I don't know if they could fit a bariatric on their bird, and can't imagine why the board would go someplace else... they are the regional spinal cord injury center.

Oh, and you should complain!

This was like five years ago, I don't think they would care. The bariatric board is build more heavily, and it is 6" wider. We were told they used it to transport a man to a long term care facility in Southern Va. He was on an inflatable mattress and they said our board would be most comfortable. That was fine w/ us, if it's being used to help someone, and they planned on bringing it back. BUT - they didn't bring it back. They offered to replace it, but it was mailed back from Wi before the paperwork was cleared to buy a new one. But that was three months w/ out that useful board.

I always like seeing our equipment on board other EMS units.. I call their local law enforcement & the state EMS division, then the unit returns to town, the law enforcemnt can check it out themselves. I'll file criminal charges. Since our LSB is > than $150.00 it could be considerd a felony & can loose their EMS license or be placed on probatinary status. Never cared for thieves. We has lost over $6.000 a yr until we started doing this... guess what the stealing has gone down

Be safe,
