KED for peds

I am curious about about how many feel about using a KED for spinal immobilization of a pediatric patient. with a c-collar.

I have used this method many times. I understand it is not the manufacturers recommend use. I know the chest straps don't close on a pediatric but duct tape works great for that.

I used the 2 head sides as head blocks.

I know a ped board works as well, but if you don't have a ped board available...

We used them in NY, with good results, as we didn't have anything else. Just make sure you fill any voids. I don't know about duct tape, though. The KED can cause anxiety and claustrophobia in a ped. We have the pedi immobilizer at Fairfax. It is way more comfortable than other options, and I've seen it tolerated well by my pts.
