Job Outlook in California?

Hi everyone I'm Andy

I'm going to be taking a local EMT course this fall and I'm a little worried about getting a job post-NR. I'm in Modesto, California (it's about halfway between Fresno and Sacramento). For you folks who already work in this area or who may have some info, what's the EMS job market lookin like? I work in an ED and lots of my friends I've talked to said the job outlook is kinda bleak--but theyre mostly looking for positions as ED techs. I'm 90% interested in working on an ambulance rig and about 10% interested in working as a tech.

I have a B.S. in Bio and I've gotten incredible experience working as a scribe in the ED for the past year. I also would like to work part time...do you think that would work against me or for me? I thought possibly for since the company wouldn't have to pay benefits lol.

Sorry for being so windy and I'm really looking forward to spending more time with this communty

Lots of threads on this.

California is over-saturated with EMTs and Medics. With a BS you have a better shot, but with that said you should go to medic school, especially with a BS in Bio or better yet, medicAL school.

Sorry, searched "California jobs" and browsed thru the first couple pages

I think in California you need work experience before being admitted to any paramedic programs? I'm not so concerned about money--I would be tickled pink if I could even volunteer on an ambulance shift for free a couple times a month.

I think I'm too stupid and too poor for medical school heh. To be honest, I've gone to school for so long without really doing much clinically-speaking and I'm anxious to get out there and do something with all that I've learned and not just feel like a waste of space...if that makes sense

I appreciate your feedback!

well i graduated from an emt program here in fresno in may, and i am in the middle of their interview process now,
they have three phase's an opening interview, then a physical skills test then a closing management interview,

i would really like to work there so i am hoping to do well,
other than that there are a few ift's a smaller ambo co. called pistoresi then there is the standard er tech and casino medic/security jobs out there.

but it is a tight market right now.
good luck to you
