Is it at all possible to get an EMT-B job right out of school at AMR?

To make a long story short, I graduated from college in May and I am currently taking a gap year (or two?) before medical school. I desperately need to find something to not only make a few bucks but occupy my time, as my current job ends in September. I am currently enrolled in an EMT class and have very high grades in it. I was talking to someone who works for AMR in Connecticut, and they said it was possible to get a job right out of school at one of the private companies. Would you say this is true? If so, what can I do to improve my chances of getting a job right away?

Yes it is possible but there are a lot of factors we don't know. I was hired 3 months after I finished EMT school.

Age, driving record, work history, number of EMTs in your area, if anyone is hiring, if they companies are planning on expanded or are down sizing, what auto insurance the company has

Just to name a few

Since were on the subject, if I'm 27 when I'm certified, how negatively would a speeding ticket in the last 2 years and a suspension for failure to pay a speeding ticket 5 or 6 years back affect me? Nothing serious like DUIs or reckless driving though. Sorry if you feel like I'm hijacking your thread nm825, I just don't want to start a new one for similar questions.

Knowing the right people helped more than anything else.

For sure knowing someone from class that will put in a good word for you certainly helps! Just need AMR to start the process for EMT's now

Or having a friend who is really close with all of the supervisors and ops manager haha.

I believe we are still working through the list of EMTs who worked the coachella and stagecoach events with us so it may be a little while

I don't know anything about Connecticut but graduates from my program in San Francisco have been getting jobs 4 to 6 weeks after graduation. Our school has ties to the community and it is tied with UCLA for the number 1 EMT school in California. Most of my classmates plan to take NREMT within a week or so of graduation and many of us are taking all the necessary steps for the Ambulance drivers license.

I think every school is different, let alone different states. Our program has a very good reputation and when companies need EMTs they call our school and ask if they can refer a student. This program is so awesome. I am so glad I found it.
