With the way it's been since August, it will probably lose 3-5% this week since last week was all gains.

I lost 18% in the first week of August....

My gut tells me it'll even out in the long term, but it makes me so nervous that I'm really reluctant to day trade again. :/

Other category: "defined benefit retirements" (civil servants)

Receiving a monthly check from our County employee association's investment fund, plus after three years' employment I got on board the pre-tax investment offered through the County as well. When I retired we rolled the latter over to a mutual funds setup through a large local CREDIT UNION.
In a little under two years I start getting military retirement (another fixed benefit deal, if they ever tell me what they will be paying me!) plus TRICARE (never ever forget the benefits).

When I was a firefighter, USAF browbeat us into buying savings bonds, and it was a good thing they did.
