Hi Everybody ,
I'm Craig Hayes . I'm an old time EMT who took a 15 year hiadus from EMS and just recently recertified under national registry protocol . Boy , have things changed . I was originally an EMT for 14 years total . I earned my original cert while in the Navy stationed at Miramar . Through some fast talking and a little luck I was the first non - corpsman to go through thier EMT program . After the service , I was an out of district firefighter / EMT for Crest fire protection district in El Cajon , CA for 5 years , worked for Schaefer ambulance a total of 7 years , Southwest ambulance for 1 year ( both in San Diego ) , and a brief stint with Care ambulance in Kernville , CA before losing my job due to an illness and burnout . Looking back , it was a blessing in disguise . I needed a break . I've been working as a transit bus driver for the past 13 years but I keep active in the community as a CERT ( community emergency response team ) trainer , Red Cross first aid / CPR instructor and DAT team member , and ham radio operator . Unfortunately , I've had a knee replacement so I doubt I'll be able to work as a field EMT anymore but as a CERT member if we break a major incident here I'll be manning a treatment area or if the medics need a spare pair of hands in the back of the rig , I can free up a firefighter . I figured with the background , I may as well get recertified . It's been pretty interesting learning the changes too . I'm looking forward to talking with you folks and keeping up on the latest changes .
God Bless ,
Craig
