I am a newly certified EMT and have an interview coming up for Americare. Anyone know what it is like to work for them in southern California? I read posts from years ago and they all say management is unprofessional and it's a pretty bad place to work in general. Has it improved any? Thanks!

I would go somewhere else.
In LA county:
AMR
Bowers (becoming an AMR company)
CARE
Cole Schaefer
Mccormick
Again stay away from anything with a funky name, phone number on the side or a help wanted sign on the back of an ambulance.
If you are willing to travel and do some awesome stuff:
HALL
Liberty (Ridgecrest)
American (Fresno)
Delano (Tulare)

VENTURA COUNTY
amr
Lifeline
Gold coast
Ojai ambulance

On this board regular members that been in the industry for a while will tell you to go only with few company’s and that is all.

Regarding Americare

1) They had money issue, they were getting notice of termination letter for not paying their insurance on time. They always found a way to pay it by the deadline and haven't had this issue for a while now.

2) They have 911 contract in Santa Monica(the only 911 contract that i know of)

3) They are mainly ift with exception of 911 in Santa Monica

4) They are big enough that they are unlikely to go out of business tomorrow

5) Because of their size, being able to get overtime should not be a problem

Being you are new emt you really should be looking to get your foot in the door, so any job is a job. Also understand that you will never be making big money as emt, if that is what you are after then you need to go for paramedic or find another industry.

Just go anywhere that pays you every two weeks and get your 6 months in for paramedic school then leave...
