I have been requested to volunteer and a local Bike Race/Hike. I want to, and would love to help out, but is there any way I can get in trouble for administering first aid. Is my EMR Certificate in possible danger? I don't have malpractice insurance as it is covered within my organization. Answers from people in Canada would be best as the law will be different, but anyone that knows anything, that is great!

thanks,

JB

Why the sudden rash of people thinking that they'll lose their certs for volunteering?

Call up the College of Paramedics or other local regulatory body and ask them. They'd know better than us.

If you are working under a company you should be okay. If you are freelancing (moonlighting) then be careful. Most times EMT's that freelance are putting their license at risk because they are not working through the agreement their employer has with a medical director, (protocols/online med control). This opens the liability up to you. Check with your local/state EMS office.
