Okay... I'm sitting here at my desk in my apt. I hear something out in the hall outside my door (hall is actually an outside walkway) and my heart rate goes to about 200 in a split second. It sounds electrical... it's loud... the image of electrical sparks falling from the ceiling is racing through my mind... it sounds like it's right outside my door which means the only way out if I need to escape is over the balcony. I mean I'm a Chimp so it's no problem but it's not on my to-do-list for today. It's too dangerous to open the door so I decided to peak out the peep whole. Wait.. the door is metal. If it's what I'm thinking then something out there is shorting out and I don't want to be touching a metal door if something in the walls or ceiling is shorting. So I do my best to hover over the peep hole.

*whew*

It's only the maintenance man spraying water on the walkway cleaning it off. I swear though it sounded like it was electrical.

Okay.. heart rate is 48... getting better.

In my class they taught us that was bradycardiac...

and that is usually still a bad thing <_<

But really I am glad to hear you weren't consumed by a big ball of fire, or did a Ted Bundy and get shocked! :D

My heart rate is usually alround 55-60 and I'm in no way an athlete or anything. My hear rate and respirations have always been low. It's funny... when I was in MFR class and we'd be doing vitals on eachother my teammates always thought I was messing with them. They thought I was like skipping breaths or making my heart beat weird. Nope... it was just me being me.

And people say I'm paranoid...HA! you got me beat on this one, I'll have to show my husband this post so he can stop making fun of me! :P

And I LOVED messing with my class during lab, mine runs high and if I have a smoke then run upstairs (our class was upstairs) I could really mess with them. It was fun :D

Haha, Thats great. I have 2 things to share that relate to this.

Monday, I'm driving down the road and this car thats quite a bit ahead of me pulls over and the passenger gets out and flags me down. She says her friend is having chest pain and they need an ambulance. First thing that goes through my mind is "Oh god." :o I go over and ask this lady whats the problem. She said her chest hurts like nothing shes ever felt before. Her friend stands next to her and pats her back to comfort her. (they're like 80 or something) All of a sudden, this old lady lets out the biggest burp I've ever heard. "Oh, thats much better" she says. Well, glad her chest pain is gone, now can we attend to mine? She gave me a heart attack.

We had this one girl in my class who was always on her phone with her boyfriend. Most of the time she got angry. You could just see her BP rising. This one time our instructor gets a BP cuff and takes her BP while shes yelling on the phone. 155/105. Seriously. This girl is probably 5'4, 110lbs. Very small. She said that her BP is 140/100 while resting. Crazy.

used to screw with my classmates in the same way. family hx of htn already starting manifest in me at 20. average resting bp 140-150/100ish.

I have an advantage when instructing. For some reason my pulse is very hard to detect, so the most slight movement of my wrist and it's hidden. So to mess w/ their heads, I move my wrist every now & then so it seems like I only have a pulse of 20.

They stop.. and look at me, try again. This time I convince them it's less than 20. They look at me again, maybe to see if I'm still alive..

How did I miss this one? Funny story :)
