A bit of background. I am fifty four, have lived a life and want to find employment with meaning. Meaning can be totally subjective...just like sanity...I feel I might have the qualifications to be in emergency services.

Empathetic and comforting to those in need
Yet possessing a bitter yet funny sense of the ridiculous

Calm and cool under fire, my own daughter was hit by a car in front of me. I was the first one there cracking jokes and hiding the blood on my hands while assessing her for injuries.

Calm and cool, taking in and remedying a situation at the site, I'll debrief myself later on.

Enough years at big corporate to know the difference between official and practical.

Welcome. Take an EMT course, if you haven't yet. You'll find plenty of meaning in EMS, we all do it for different reasons. Most of us, at the core, because we genuinely like helping people.

What my pal, @DEmedic said. Welcome! take an EMT course, see if you like it, peruse the forum, ask questions at will:).

I like helping people. But I also like money... So plumbers school is looking more appealing. (Only slightly kidding).

How's the fiancé feel about that?

Well, she was a result of working in EMS so I think she'd agree it worked out alright.
