My local technical college offers an EMT-B certification course that is partially online work with a 3 hour lab weekly. I was wondering if anybody has had experience with these, and if so is it an effective way of learning properly? Thanks!

Use search and try the term percom and you should find multiple discussions about online education. Of course online is a misstatement as they all require hands on lab time.

I know a hybrid program at Lenior Community College in Kingston, NC. It seems pretty good. I talked to my EMT-Basic (at Wake Tech CC) her thoughts about the program. She said it was pretty good program, you just have to learn alot on your own. If you are willing to spend an hour or two a day reading then you should be fine. When you do your ride alongs ask a lot of questions.

Ask to see their NREMT test first time pass rates. Compare it to others in your area if you have the information available. Tests aren't everything, but it's a good indicator of the effort they put into teaching you (with exceptions).

Also, find out what kind of online curriculum it is. Do you have video classes, powerpoint classes with voiceover, all out of the textbook, a certain number of in-class lectures, etc???
