What do I have to do lol

Nicely.

Buy lunch/dinner/snacks.

Coffee is a must.

Call your local EMS agency and ask them what they require to do a ride alone on one of their trucks. Most will make you sign 5 million times swearing you will not hold them responsible if you are injured or killed on a call, etc, etc... Most around here also will require you to be at least 18. Oh and stay the hell out of the way or you might get moved in a rather quick and abrupt fashion...

Y'all got it wrong... bring donuts to the fire house (if you ride out there) donuts=instant friends

as RescueRyder said

Stop by your local EMS or Fire Dept. Its a bit easier if you're working with a volunteer squad vs. a Private EMS company. Since Volunteers will be looking for new recruits and a ride along will be a way to lure you in.

Where I work we offer a "ride along" observer for people who are curious about EMS or are "job shadowing"

to do so you must be 18, If 16 you have to be at least a EMR and a parent or guardian must sign in addition to your signature. You are briefed on HIPAA, what to expect, and what to wear when performing your job shadow day.

Things to take note on.

1. Be realistic, you are probably not going to get involved in patient care, so don't get to hurt if you feel like your pushed out of the way if a critical patient is present.
2. Be courteous to the crew, They opened up their station for you to be a third.
3. As already stated feel free to Schmooze :). Coffee, Donuts, Home baked goodies are always a plus :). God knows I can't start my day without my garbage pail sized cup of coffee.
4. kinda falls under number 1, don't expect every patient to be a trainwreck that its gonna be adrenaline junkie day all day. 98% of your calls may be simple monitor and transport.
5. Feel free to ask questions, but don't question a providers integrity.
