No second assessment by RNs, PAs, FNP or MD at the jail? FAIL.

My facility was forced to work under a decree by grand jury after such BS. We took a decade to get out from under it.

Chain of events:
1. Guy veers into guardrail of highway
2. Non-complaint to PD directions
3. Incoherent and non-compliant with EMS. Refused transport
4. Booked without a medical screening
5. Prone on floor trying to crawl using only one side of body

The Sheriff's Office paid a $200,000 settlement, and the jail's private medical contractor another $800,000.

It looks like multiple agencies failed this guy.

Figueroa wrote in his own letter that Hicks was "revealing psychotic-like behavior" and that he and Jorgensen agreed Hicks should be transported to St. Joseph's Hospital for psychiatric evaluation.

St Joe's has a very good psych ward upstairs, downstairs is a good ER...and it's only about 10 minutes from Tampa General, maybe if they HAD taken him there...
