I'd like some advice but please don't be too harsh or rude. I've seen lots of rude comments on other threads that involve NREMT struggles. I took my EMT course a year ago and did really well. Not test wise though I struggled with that . But as for scenarios, skills, "street smarts" I was excellent! I even received an award for Excellence on my clinicals, the first time the program has even given an award. But .. Due to my terrible anxiety and very low confidence I failed the test once and ever since I've been too afraid to take it again. Do I buckle down and study my *** off? Or retake the whole course? All help, advice, tips, and encouragement would be greatly appreciated.

A refresher or online test prep like jb learning would most likely help. You may also need to redo your psychomotor exam as each test is only good for 1 year.
Make sure you understand the material and not just memorize facts and numbers. Also make sure you know what the question is actually asking. The nr test is a best answer test not a right answer test.

Confidence is very important in this field. That said the more experience and comfortable you get the more confidence you will have.

Thank you very much for the advice Medic Tim!

Don't let your education go to waste; take it again. Study. It's not a difficult test if you are prepared.

Edit: if you took the course a year ago you may be required to retake the course if you didn't pass the test in that time. That may depend on your state.

Many community colleges offer some counseling to help with test anxiety, helping with relaxation techniques.

If you need help with the material, a study aid, like JB Learning may help.

And as an aside, many of the replies you think might be rude, are really just harsh truths. We live in a society where everyone feels entitled. Not everyone can, or should, become a prehospital care provider. Repeated fails or "failure to launch" with patient care should be a red flag that maybe it's not the right fit.

Not saying that is the case with you, but I wanted to make sure we were on the same page.

So I definitely know exactly what your feeling. I failed my basic exam the first time around and I was afraid to face it again. I spoke with my instructor and he advised me to get this EMT Crash Course book. After I read the book and retested, I PASSED!! Check it out. Also why don't you get with your instructor where you attended class and see if they'll let you sit in some classes. I also you used to do practice test online that will explain why the answer is what it is and some of the questions on this practice were on the basic exam when I retested.
