I need some advice to help me get through the last of a gauntlet i've been running in moving to another state, reciprocity, job seeking etc. I'm confident i have an interview set up to get hired as what will be my first serious job as an EMT-B, and i want to take this very seriously and finally gain some experience in the field. I apologize in advance for a semi-ridiculous question, however, the last thing i need to mess this up for me is my hair! It's sort of long as my lady friend likes it and she won't be happy if it goes.. I have to know if shoulder-length hair on a dude, well kept for interview and on the job, is going to be responsible for my resume ending up in a trash can. what is the general attitude I will receive from prospective employers? At what point is long hair too long and will it hurt my chances of landing the job I am passionate about getting? I personally don't care much, I'd have a mohawk if it up'd my odds. Concise, rude, kind, sympathetic, apathetic, all types of advice welcome!

Cut it. Professional and short.

...and cover your tattoos.

yea. I suppose the problem contains the solution quite clearly huh

I used to be a long haired kinda person. All through high school, I had kinda the Kurt Cobain length kinda hair. Joined the military it was gone, and I have never went back.

a well groomed medium length hair will suit you fine for a job. No need for a hi and tight, but having some long hair can pose issues too. After you get the job. You can try and let it grow back. down to your A** if your employer permits.

In job interview mode I'm sure I am clean cut, and all tattoos are covered for the initial interview after I get hired I will discuss proper grooming policies, and tattoo policies. I know one place I worked for a male the hair could not grow beyond the collar. must be well kept. and tucking it into a hat was not acceptable.

Definitely cut it. EMT jobs can be very competitive in some areas. You don't want to do anything that might put you at a disadvantage.

The reality of it is that some employeers do look at the long hair on men and for whatever reason, consider it unproffesional. In a perfect world, you should be able to have long hair (and tattoos) as long as you are still professional. There is a difference between having a lot of hair that is choas and a professional look.

I don't think it makes a difference in the job itself, it does not limit anything. Do we expect women to cut their hair to work in this field?
