I was wondering if there are any Intermediates out there having the same troubles that I am with trying to find a job? I got my cert in January and haven’t had any luck. Any words of wisdom are welcome.

I think most people regardless of level and location are having a difficult time finding a job. Some places are worse than others. It took me 13 months to get an EMT job after I had everything necessary to work as an EMT in California.

EMT-I Is a dying breed... Our county doesn't even recognize them, and the state isn't to far behind. But in general, there is quite a few people trying to apply to very little positions.

pretty soon, the state of MN won't recognize the "I"s

I think where I'm at being an emt-I pretty much still only gets you a basics job. However I would assume, though they would pay you as a basic you would be more desirable to an employer than a basic with equivalent experience.

Right now I am to the point that I will take an pay at either level just so I can get experience to put on my resume.

Everyone says the I is dying but we use them on every truck all trucks are I/P with the random P/P truck. Only employees that are basics are VSTs, special events staff and the random office employee, everyone else is an I or P.

Still haven't heard what they are going to do when NREMT switches to AEMT, it's going to be real pricy to put all the intermediates through the bridge program.

If nothing else you might try and find a volunteer gig to get some hours behind you. Beyond just getting you experience it also allows you to network and get your face seen. While networking is important in many careers I'm always amazed at how crucial it is in EMS.

That is what I am slowly finding out.

Where are you looking? Also where in NV are you? I heard there's an agency that has recently hired a bunch of new intermediates and may hire a few more this summer. It may even happen before then. Don't quote me on it, but that's the rumor going around.

I am in Reno. I do have an app in with the local agency. I am just waiting to see if I get an interview.
