Well, I work for a large EMS company. My regular truck is an older Ford E-350 (2005). Well, in January our truck had a power steering leak. It had to be fixed only about 3 times. Well after they fixed it for the final time (we thought), my supervisor was taking the truck back from our shop to our quarters. He stopped to get a sandwich. When he came back out he couldn't get it started. They sent a hook and it was towed back to our shop. Well, our truck has been sitting in Avon for the last 2 months and they haven't been able to fix the :censored: thing. They are waiting for a tester for it. They think it has something to do with the fuel injectors. From what they tell me that the injectors are controled by oil pressure. They think it has a leak in the oil system somewhere. I hate it because now we have to switch in and out of trucks every other day. We have gotten so good at switching out of trucks that we can tell when we forgot something by just looking at the cabinets in the new truck. We loved our truck it was one of the best in the station. It was an older truck but it had some of the best features AEV had. Also, in all our trucks we have anti-theft devices. On the newer trucks when we use the anti-theft the truck power shuts off, so on really cold days the heat in the Pt compartment shuts off also. Our truck doesn't do that. Our spare truck also doesn't have a UHF radio in the back to make radio reports to the hosp. It really, really stinks. Well on the bright side, when we get our truck back, if we ever get it back, we will get a brandy new Stryker stretcher. Even the mechanics tell us they are going to take our truck out back and shoot it. :deadhorse: Have you ever had a truck out of service for that long?
 
2005 is old? How many miles?
 
Man you guys are spoiled.:P Several of ours are 2001-2003, my regular unit is a 2002.


On one of my rigs well over 250,000 miles on current engine, patient compartment has over 700,000 miles.

That is because, before I started, my station had all trucks 10+ yrs old, and were falling apart. Everyone of those trucks failed state inspection, and they were replaced after that inspection. That is why we have newer trucks. And we have only 7 trucks in my station. New England is very tough on trucks.

Our town's truck was built before the dinosaurs (going by the age of yours), early 1990's I think!
It has to be plugged into a power socket 24/7 to stop the battery draining!
Mind you, they only averaged 4 calls per month, so it sits for long periods at a time.

Due to the call load, (by the way this ambulance covers all 111 (911) calls)our town always ends up with the last of the last, Ambulance service hand-me-downs!

So be thankful for what you do have!;)

That happens when the service does not have a mech trained in the Ford engines. It would be cheaper to send it to the dealer, then have it out of service that long!
 
I almost told them to change the engine and fix the broken one later. Oh and all our mechanics work on only FORDs. That is all we have used for the longest time. For using Fords this is the first time that they have seen this problem. I wish they would just send it to the dealer. I could get it back quicker.

That is the biggest problem most services have. They say that they work on only Fords, but have never been trained on the Ford Diesel. The Powerstroke is completely different then any other engine.

That would be like saying I only work on male pt's, so I should be able to do a vasectomy on anyone!;)
 
Of course if it is the Ford 6.0 it is junk. I only drove Fords until that piece of crap came along.
 
Sorry, Farva, my rig's an 03 E350, I will be SO upset when they retire it in October. Yes, we have an 05 or 06 that's been out of service since I started working for the company, it's been at the dealer that whole time.
 
Ok, a update for all who care. Our truck has about 1 1/2" more dust on it. It is still sitting in the corner of the shop it was last time I saw it. I want a new truck now. Also the brand new Stryker stretcher that was put aside for our truck now has dissappered. We belive it is some where in Maine. I have sent out my spys but they have came up empty. Our spare truck we have now will be taken off the road in November. By then I hope we will have a truck. This just stinks.

Do you know if it has gone to Minutemen in Walpole? I know that just about every other ambulance, fire truck, etc, (esp the Ford Diesels) goes there for major and tricky service. They know Ford diesels like no other. Your company may not have a contract there-- but it is worth looking into.

Only your company would sit on a broken truck that long...
 
Nope, It is in our shop. They can't get the truck started to bring it there. Also, they only send factory problems to the dealer. They fix every thing them self. Don't worry your company is not the only co that sits on trucks that long.
 
Well, from what I have been told, our truck now moves. No they have not pushed it. It runs own. It is now at the body shop. We will get it back soon. :glare:
 
So, we finally got our truck back on Friday. It is a mess, and what really stinks is that we can't even put the truck in service. When i looked in the back we were missing equipment. Ugh. I hope on Tuesday when can just get to use our truck.
 
if your company is anything like mine your broken down truck became an unofficial supply truck.
