I work for a nonprofit. My gear is mostly old, my ambulance is a kludged-together hybrid of 1994's Braun module and 2009's Ford van chassis, and although the pay is acceptable, it's not exactly great either. Also, if I call in sick for this head cold, I'll get written up for being sick and missing work.

Compared to AMR, where there would be no recriminations for calling off...

There is no such thing as a nonprofit.

I have to wonder if the same patterns hold for hospitals as for ambulance services, because there is a lot of research out there on for profit vs. not-for-profit hospitals.

Sounds like you work for a ****ty company.

whether for profit or non-profit, ****ty companies do exist.
