Hello so i haven't graduated yet but i take my state exam on the 19th of december and i want to start looking now so that i will be able to work asap. Currently living in philadelphia but i'll be moving to de in feb. Any way just need some suggestions or ideas of where i should begin to look. I kind of want to get into a hospital as an er tech but i haven't had any luck so far in my searches.

It took me 4 months after receiving my NREMT-B to find a job as an EMT. I must have turned in 40 to 50 resumes. I applied for tons of ER jobs, ward clerk and in hospital patient transporter positions, and never received an interview.
It was fustrating because I knew if I could just get the opportunity for an interview I would have a good chance to secure a position. Finally, 4 months later, I finally received an email from an IFT ambulance company that I was choosen for an interview.
The next day I was contacted and asked if I would accept the position.
OF COURSE!

Looking back, I would suggest that if you have any opportunity to introduce yourself to the ER hiring agent or other prospective employer ahead of time then do so. Drop off a dozen donuts, cookies or something for them to remember you. I think if I had done that, it may not have taken 4 months for me to get my 1st interview. Its crazy just how hard it is in EMS to just get the interview.

Be aware that many companies will not take you seriously until you have your certification in hand. It can't really hurt to do some tactful shmoozing, but don't be surprised if you don't get much of a response from some.

Most companies won't even bother looking at your application if you don't have all of your certs. What happens is you get called for an interview and they want to offer the position and you so happen to fail the state test. Well they have to interview another person and fill out more paperwork. It took me 2 months to get hired after I applied. Three months after EMT school. Good luck!
