I have been going through the State regs and my eyes are blurry...

Does anyone have a direct link or know where to find a rule that states a paramedic MUST work under a medical director to be legal?

Yes I have been going through Chapter 401 and the state ems site...

Thanks

i believe thats the way emt/paramedic "licenses" work is you are working under an MD,DO..ie the medical director. ; you dont really have an 'independent' license to practice medicine..(correct me if im wrong)

each agency should have their own medical director, but if you are trying to get ahold of Joe Nelson (if i recall correctly), the state medical director... hes hard to track down.

We know how it works, however, he's looking for the specific law in the state of Florida that says it.

I don't think you are going to find exactly what you are looking for in 401 or 64j for that matter.

Florida State Statute 401 is the enabling legislation that identifies and defines EMT and Paramedic. BLS vehicles must be staffed with at least one EMT, ALS vehicles must be staffed with at least one EMT and one Paramedic. All licensed transport providers must employ/contract with a Medical Director.

Nothing in the EMS statute or rules and regulations allows an EMT or Paramedic to "freelance" or work outside of an EMS system. No other legislation defines, identifies or acknowledges EMT or Paramedic.

Before you all begin to flame me with "Well so and so hospital has Paramedics working in their ER" they are most likely working as techs which fall into a different law altogether.

If you still have questions call the State, they are very friendly and are willing to help. (850) 245-4440

Been there done that and still no resolution.

But thanks for the replies...
