I have been looking into NREMT recerification. I live in WA and we still have state certification. The question that I can't get a straight anwser about is if my 30 hours of CBT (compentency based training) is apllicable toward the 24 hours of basic CEU for the NREMT recertification. Tried contacting the state DOH with no success, my employer only requires state certification so they don't know either. 99% of the people I work with are not NREMT since it is not required here. Anyone have any ideas about this? I certainly want to keep my NREMT even though it is not required in WA. Thanks

Then you wouldn't ask the state, you would be asking the NREMT.

Per the NREMT's EMT-B recertification brochure:
The following are maximum hours per course that
can be applied towards Additional EMS Related
Continuing Education hours:
■ A maximum number of 24 hours can be applied
from any one topic area.
■ Hour for hour credit can be applied for standardized
courses (including, but not limited to, ABLS,
ACLS, AMLS, PHTLS, PALS, PEPP, etc.) and
teaching EMS courses.
■ A maximum number of 12 hours can be applied
from each of the following courses: Teaching CPR
• Emergency Driving • Dispatch Training.
■ A maximum number of 24 hours can be applied
from Distributive Education towards this section
and must be state or CECBEMS approved.

Still, give the NREMT office a call if you want to be absolutely certain. They don't bite unless provoked and it takes a lot to provoke them generally. 614-888-4484
