With an acutely decompensating patient, would you really be able to fight them with a BVM? Would it do anything, really?

Yup, you can. It's not easy but it can be done.

Heck yeah you can fight it! CPAP if you have it, meds if they can tolerate it. BVM to force air in. Granted you may not always win the fight, but isn't our job just a fight with our patient's body?
