hey everyone,

Any career ER techs? I'm curious about the possible advancements, or if it's pretty dead end? What about scope, if you get your paramedic are you aloud to do more or must follow EMT-B?

Thanks

It's a dead end. It's an entry level job(in most applications); a way to dip a toe into hospital medicine, get contact hours and see if you want to go on to something bigger(nursing, PA, etc).

There's no real advancement. That's not to say you couldn't work there forever, but its not like theres a real career ladder to climb. Even the senior super tech in the ER is at the bottom of the hierarchy.

I know a few people who are career techs. Depends on he hospital if there are lead tech spot or not. But as stated above, most use it as a method to pay for nursing or pa school.

We have a few at one of our local hospital. They’re former flight medics that have an expanded scope. It’s not a position that they hire for, it’s more of a grandfathered position that they’ve fallen into.
