Hey guys,
I'm currently living in Mobile Alabama and will be relocating with my fiance to Nashville TN. She has gotten a job with Vanderbilt Childrens so were looking for an EMT job for me in TN. Does anyone here live around that area and can give me an idea of some companies that are hiring? I have already planned on taking the EMT-IV bridge course so that will not be a problem. She is moving on the 15th of this month and as soon as I can get a job up there I will be behind her.

I live in Nashville. There are two outfits that I know of right off the top of my head, both are private ambulance services. One is First Call and the other is Lifeguard. I can't say if they are hiring or not, but I do know people at First Call and Lifeguard that tell me that they are or will be hiring. Both companies have web sites. You can fill out an online application on First Call's site. Lifeguard does not have online applications. (I picked one up for Lifeguard today!) I'm sure those are not the only services in Nashville or the surrounding counties, but those are two that I am familiar with. Also, I'm told that First Call pays the best of all the private services in the area. I don't know if that's the truth, but that's the word. Anyway, I hope this helps you out some. Let me know if I can dig up some more info for you.

My last partner before I moved from Mobile in '09 is looking at moving to Nashville. I can try to find out if she has looked at any services yet and what she has found out. She is a paramedic and picky about who she works for so she may have found some good info.

Did you go to USA or work for anyone around Mobile? I had 8 years in fire/EMS in Mobile.

Have you taken the EMT-B to EMT-IV transition course yet? St Thomas is always hiring EMT's, but they prefer EMT-IV as that is the lowest level we train you to here in TN that can work on an ambulance. EMT-B programs were halted here several years back. We are on the move to EMT-Advanced at the moment, which will replace EMT-IV over the next 4 years.

I've not taken the extended skills course yet. I'm aiming at the Feb set at Volunteer State. I gotta scrounge up the money to register. I was looking at TN Dept of EMS, and am I right...it will be 200+ for a license? Also I didn't go to USA I went through the Faulkner State CC program. From what I have heard its better than EMT program at USA. Where did you go down here? Also, what are the local fire departments around Hermitage? Ive been a volly for 5-6 years and would like to get into a department up there if at all possible.

I got my original EMT-IV at Motlow State, my EMT-P at TN Tech, and then my AAS in Paramedicine from Roane State. Send me a PM, I will tell you about the job opportunities here.

Check out Wilson County Emergency Management Agency (WEMA). They are not the usual EMA, as they are the primary fire/rescue/EMS agency in Wilson County. They have both paid and volunteer positions.

www.wilsonema.com (I think)
