I am currently an EMT in California, and my wife and I are thinking about moving to Las Vegas. I don't know much about being an EMT there, anything you can tell me would be great. Also, being an EMT in California is sadly not a career, but I know it is in other states. Is Nevada one of them? Thank you!

Nope. Career in this effectively requires medic. With that being said, Houston has good wages.

Even as an ER Tech or AEMT? And does anyone know the average wages for EMTs in Vegas?

From what I've heard, Basics work mostly events and standbys. To be back on a rig you need to be an intermediate or medic. EMTs working at the casinos as EMT/Security make about $14-15/hr.

I don't know what the starting wage for the field is, but I was talking to a couple former Medicwest medics a couple weeks ago and one of them was saying that the cost of living was low enough out there that EMTs were buying houses.

Out there there's three companies. MedicWest, AMR owned, (Which I could devote an entire post on how much I hate their new rig design), AMR itself, and Community Ambulance.

Whatever your end goal is, keep at it and continue your education. Don't stop at being a basic.

I highly second the motion, if EMS is your passion, to make the move to Texas.
