Hello, so I recently graduated EMT school and just had an interview with a private ambulance company and told me to come in for training next week. The training session is a 12 hour shift and that's all I was told. I couldn't think of any questions at that moment but I'm wondering now...did I get the job?

I plan to call tomorrow and ask but I still wanted to put the forum out there and also, is it paid training?

Thanks for the feedback!

Depending upon the way they actually word it, it could be an unpaid ride-along to help them gauge your ability after which they would make their final hire/not hire decision or it could be an actual training ride where they'd be paying you for your time there as you'd be "on the clock" learning how to do the very basics of the job with someone that can train you and be with you in the back while you're learning. If that's the case, a single 12-hour ride isn't going to be sufficient. You'd be partnered up with a more experienced EMT that can help train you until you're up to speed.

Being an EMT isn't all that hard... but grasping what needs to be done and when and what to write on the reports can be quite difficult at times.

Good luck next week!

Thank you for the feedback!! The interviewer did ask for my availability and said he needed someone on specific days. We came to a mutual agreement. He also gave me training uniform for that training day. He said the training days consist of 3-5 days and that he needs to see me out in the field. I still plan to call though, but calling him and asking, does it seem rude? I wanted to ask if training meant i got the job. I don't want to come off as being arrogant or conceited. Thanks so much!

There should have been a more formal offering of the position. But who knows, if it's a private company they can be sketch.

Make it easy and don't assume.

Did you sign any paper work (payroll)?
not that that makes it defenitive but it could be a hint in the way of if you got the job or not but to go with what's been stated the easy way to figure out is to call and ask

Truly, don't stress too much about it. Usually when there's an offer of employment, companies are usually very explicit about it. They usually do NOT want any ambiguities in this process. In my case, unless I'm volunteering or doing a pre-hire ride along for evaluative purposes, I will not and do not work for free. If I'm officially an employee, that includes "training rides."
