EMT Discounts East Bay CA

Yea and it can actually lead to corruption. Before going ems I was gonna be a cop my now wife stopped me in my tracks but in the chief's interview they specifically ask you if you were given a discount what would you do, if given free food what would you do. I would deny it repeatedly. If they kept insisting, I would place the amount/total of the meal in a tip jar or leave the money on the counter. This was to see how corrupt or abusive of your uniform powers you would be.

A new EMT asked what businesses in his area offer EMS personnel a modest discount on meals, and you are somehow afraid he's going to end up like Vic Mackey?

I've been in EMS a long time and have never even heard of an EMT being "corrupted" by getting 50¢ cents off his coffee.

Look, if someone wants to give me free stuff because of the uniform I wear, that's on them. Of course I will refuse, but if they insist, sure. Heck, I will pull my rig around back and they can load me up. As long as they know the free stuff does not mean I will arrive any faster.

Nothins free. Somethings almost always expected in return.

Yes, your business is what they expect in return.

Not everything is a conspiracy. And I'm not sure what "favors" they could expect from an EMT, anyway.

I will amend my previous statement a bit. I use my government employee status when booking hotels and vacations. I always tell the booking person that it is a leisure trip and not business. They usually always give me the discount.

Taking a discount that is offered/advertised is not unethical. If there is no policy against it an you aren't abusing it have at it.

Just make sure to thank them.
