For the Medical/Trauma practical exam they said i'll have an assistant can i direct them to do the vitals or do i need to do them myself?

Is this your medical/trauma ASSESSMENT? If so, you can direct partner to do vitals, just make sure you verbalize it. They are not testing to see if you can correctly obtain a blood presure. They are testing to make sure that you can follow the steps and go through a full assessment from arrival to transport to hospital.

I don't know for sure about the NREMT practicals, but if it's the same as the state practicals for NY (what I'm taking in a week!), then you have to do vitals yourself, as part of what you're demonstrating is your ability to accurately take vitals. Your assistant can't do any assessment for you; instead, they carry out the treatments which you describe so that you can focus on the assessment.

EDIT: Apparently the NREMT is different from the NY state tests and you can have your assistant do it for you. Thank everybody for correcting me!

For the NREMT you can direct your assistant to take vitals and apply oxygen to the patient as well as get any kind of treatments ready.
