Do any of you know where I can find an EMT-B class in Florida for a person under 18? Thanks

First, welcome to EMTLife!

It may be helpful if you list what area you are in so that our Florida members can point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the welcome.
Im in the Flagler County area. Volushia County is to my south and St. Johns County is to my North,

I am 14. My local Com College says 18 to enroll. Would I be able to get my state cert w/o clinicals?

I hate to be blunt, but 14 is too young to be an EMT-B. I know it's tough, but instead, focus on your schoolwork, girls/guys, being a kid. Wait until you're older to take the class. It will be there in a few years.

Best of luck to you!
Eric

I have actually been told to get my EMT before my Sophmore year (Next year).I actually was trying to get my EMT sence I was 6. I have always wanted to be an EMT-P.I have good grades...my emt classes would be taken over the summer break so I would not have to worry about grades.

Yeah, I guessed you wanted to become a paramedic. The name is a dead giveaway ;)

The thing is, 14 (or 15) is just too young to have a person's life in your hands. I know you are eager, and I understand that. If fact, I applaud it. If you're eager, you'll be more interested in learning and excelling in the field than some others.

But consider this. If you were a fully grown adult who called 911, would you really want a 14 year-old EMT working on you? Think seriously about that question. I mean really think.

It's nothing against you. It really isn't. It's just the fact that your age is just too young. I know you're eager, but wait for a few years. You will be more mature, and people will feel a little bit better.

If you have any questions, let me know. I'll be more than happy to help you out the best I can.

no. while some other states may allow 16 year old EMT's florida utilizes the NREMT, and one must be 18 to sit for the national exam. 18 or not to enroll is up to the college but you have to be 18 to obtain a license in florida

It would not be for me to get a job but more along the lines of assessing and starting treatment until a medic is on scene.

If a 14 year old has the emotional maturity required of EMT's than that 14 year old needs to find a different career. I see alot of stuff that bothers me that no one should see (kids especially.)

Florida does not utilize the NREMT according to there site.

From the state board of EMTs

"What about reciprocity with other states?

A.Florida does not have reciprocity with any US state, territory, possession, or the NREMT."

florida uses the nremt.
what reciprocity do you have with which state that you believe will let you get your emt license?

you can not do it untill your 18.
it's just not happening kid.
get a girl or a gameboy, worry about EMT when it is a real possibility for you.
actually at 14 you can get your cpr cert and a firstresponder cert. look int that

I have my MFR and my BCLS (BCLS is bvm, cpr, aed, ect.).
Look at training by my username and you will see it.

Huh? I never said he should get a job as an EMT at 14. I said he should wait a few years.

i know. i was just elaborating on your statement about being too young. I don't think i properly put my thoughts into words though.

No problem. It happens :P

Just a failure to communicate.

Even a Paramedic who is off duty will do what only a lay person can do until professional help arrives. If you are not employed with an ambulance service you will NOT function as an EMT or Paramedic at scene.

First you call 911.

Second is scene safety for yourself. Never, ever approach a scene that you do not have proper equipment or training for.

Never put members of your family or friends at risk because you want to be like an EMT or Paramedic at scene regardless of how good your intentions are.

The State and the NR clearly states you must be 18 to take the EMT certification. Period.

Take a few American Red Cross classes while you are in school. Become a junior lifeguard.

Take some science and math classes in high school to prepare you for your goals and choose a decent college with both EMT and Paramedic. If you can do an early enrollment while in high school for the prerequisites, do that until you are close enough to 18 to be allowed into the EMT class.
