What textbook did you guys use in your EMT-B class? Im using Emergency Care to prep myself. Not 100% sure what the actual class uses. Anyone got any input on Emergency Care or anyother textbook out there?

Also, what equipment did you need to buy. I do SAR stuff so I already have a trauma kit with most everything in it. But I imagine you need a BP/Steth kit. What else did you guys need? Want to get a good reading. I assume most classes have the same standards or near them. Thanks in advance.

There are many threads asking what members should have for EMT class.

As a forum we've come to a general consensus that the required course textbook and basic school supplies are all you need prior to the start of class. Once you begin they will tell you what you need to purchase, if anything. Just like the 100 teachers in my school who all have different supplies lists for students, it's the same in EMS. You really need to see what's provided and what's required. Just like my students, you'll most likely have to wait until orientation or the first day of school to get that list.

I hope that helps.

For my class we used the AAOS book, also known as the Orange book. We were also provided with a CPR manual as well as a BP cuff and stethoscope.

All the class supplies was covered in the 500$ fee for the class.

No offense, but...

Here you identify yourself as a pre-EMT Student.

On your profile you identify yourself as a Paramedic Student.

On another thread you claimed to be whacker responding to EMS calls as a EMT for SAR.

What gives? As a resposible members of California's EMS coummunity and a dedicated SAR member I am concerned that we have a serious (dangerous) whacker in our midst. Like, I said, if I off base then I measn no offense... just rightfully concerned...

one can be both an EMT student and a paramedic studnet if the paramedic program includes both.

So...are you an EMT student, an EMT, or a paramedic student? I'm so confused...

So far, he has identified himself 4 different ways on the forums:

Pre-EMT Student
Paramedic Student
EMT
SAR Paramedic Responding Whacker Style to calls

I think it is acceptable to know (and ask) who is asking the questions and who we are talking to. As i stated in another thread, I have some legal questions that are California EMS and SAR based.

When I went to emt-b class I had to get a the big orange book and work book needed to by a pocket mask witch they racked me 16 bucks for and if I only would thought about getting it cheaper elseware, also we had to get a t-shirt saying were were a EMT Student.

I had the opertunity to use a bp cuff and stethescope from my fire station that I was volunteering at the time. I went out and bought a cheap stethescope.

My advice is dont buy stuff unless you are certain that you passed the class and really want to get into becoming and emt. I had a friend who spent 80-90 bucks on a stethescope only to drop outta the class not to much longer after that.

Good Luck

Those people enable the rest of us to get deals on EBay.

amen... 90% of the EMS and SAR gear I own came from E-bay... near new or new. I don't believe in always needing the "best" and "newest" toys... but if someone else does and then 6 months latter that item is collecting dust in a closet... I'll take it off their hands at a reduced price. ^_^

I was going to buy the stethescope from him but he lost it! So I went out and got one but I am glad that you mentioned eBay I will have to check it out!
