Question... I spoke with my local comminity college about EMT-B training. I was told that they don't offer EMT-B only training. They said that their program combines EMT-B training with EMT-I training. Has anyone seen or heard of this before?

also, What is the difference between an AEMT and EMT-I?

Not much. Varies state to state. When the new national model is implemented I will no longer be a rating, it is being replaced by AEMT. They have a longer class with a little smaller scope of practice. Which is a good thing, this is my opinion though.

That is GA for you, I just moved to GA from NC, carrying an EMT-B card. Georgia is an EMT-I/85 state, and there are very few if any EMT-B programs around. However, the scope of practice is not very wide from B to I, I believe the last time I looked, the only things I couldn't do in GA that an I/85 can is drop a combitube and IV therapy. Not sure where GA is at on the AEMT change as of yet though. Go ahead and go for your I/85 or AEMT, you will not be able to find work in the state as a EMT-B.

Let's just say it's entirely futzed up right now. The Registry is trying to 'fix' it but it's only making things more confuse (at least for the next few years).

If you're interested in the training then take it. It's a good course and will teach you a lot.
