Hello from Indiana!
I'm getting ready to start my EMT-B classes and I was wondering what EMT-Advanced-Basic was? Its the next course I can take after completing my EMT-B class.

Never heard of "EMT-Advanced-Basic". I don't know how Indy does it but that sounds ridiculous...no offense.

EMT-Basic is exactly what it sounds like...Basic.

No offense taken. I thought it was a little odd too. Just wondered what the heck it was. hehe

I've never heard of it before either. We do have two levels of "intermediate" here in Indiana thought: EMT-Advanced and EMT-Intermediate. EMT-Advanced is an EMT-B with the ability to do IVs, fingerstick blood sugars and a couple of other things. EMT-I is roughly equivalent to the NREMT-I/99 standard. To give you an idea how far up its *** this state has its head....I was technically trained as an EMT-Advanced (although the program taught to the EMT-I/99 standard like most programs did (do?)) before the Intermediate level was created here.

I reciprocated out to Illinois as an Intermediate and I can reestablish my credentials as an EMT-I here by retaking my EMT-Advanced test, reciprocating again to Illinois, taking my NREMT-I and then reciprocating back to Indiana. Confused yet? The best that can be said for Indiana as far as EMS is concerned is that it's not Maryland or California.

Yeah, I'm originally from Maryland and I was not impressed with the EMT basic class and how it was taught. Let my basic lapse when I moved to Iowa so now I get round 2 of EMT-B. Curious to see the difference here in another state.
