Hello,

I will be Receiving my EMR certificate as well as OFA 3 ticket at the beginning of October.

- Will there be medic work in Northern BC or Alberta at the beginning of October? I know break up will be happening soon..however do other non-oil related industries up north require medics?

- I would rather not drive, is having a vehicle almost essential in this field?

- Are there medic companies that will hire you permanently rather then going from contract to contract?

- I have been told work as a medic is much more consistent than most work up north, as I fought to gain any experience as a leasehand on the rigs!

Thanks for any help/suggestions!

Nic

EMR? Emergency Responder, right? Yea, having a vehicle is essential in pretty much any field. Off hand I'm pretty sure it's safe to say finding work with only an EMR is quite a bit more difficult than if you were to get your EMT-B.

America's hat does things a little different. An EMR in most provinces is essentially equivalent to a US EMT-B.

Check the Alberta College of Paramedics website for various job postings. A good number are for EMR's in the oilfields. Driving is going to be a pretty big component of any aspect of Emergency Services, especially in getting to and from the worksite (oilfield).

Acp

Thank you for the heads up, however it seems that all the job postings through the alberta college of paramedics require you to be registered through the ACP..and my registration is from BC..!

Then get registered in Alberta. That's where the jobs are.
