I am looking to relocate to the Maryland/Virginia area. I really want a fire based EMS system in a medium city. Does anyone have any suggestions of where I should apply. I am about to start paramedic school and plan on taking the NREMT paramedic exam when I'm eligible.

All the Maryland county fire departments run EMS and Fire, so that's Baltimore County (and city), Montgomery, Fredrick, Howard, and Prince George's Counties. All also pay very well, and Prince George's county is one of the busiest departments in the nation.

Virginia is similar, most of the are county Fire/EMS systems. The Hampton Roads area has several different fire departments that run EMS (Hampton, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, that area).

Are you taking your medic at Jefferson or DCCC?

No I took my basic course at Wake Tech and I'll begin my paramedic course at Lenoir through their hybrid paramedic program in January. Which countries would you recommend? I was looking at Baltimore.

apply everywhere, go with who gives you the best offer. the hiring process can be between 3 months and 6 months, and they hire at random times. apply to them all, and when you are offered the job, go with who you like the best.

I plan on applying to a lot of places. The last time I counted I have 15 places from Philadelphia to Atlanta that I plan on applying to. I just don't want to waste my time applying to a mediocre or sub par agency. I finish paramedic training in August 2013 and between studying for the NREMT-P exam I'll be filling out applications. I won't submit them until I pass the exam. I don't graduate with my bachelor's degree until Mat 2014 so I'll have time to look for a job.

Northern VA is where you will make the most money...by far.

Fairfax, Alexandria, Arlington, Prince William, and Loudoun counties are all great departments in their own way.
