Can you take one of these without being affiliated and if so, would it actually help you to get a job?

Most often these courses are offered through an employer, and usually because they are suggested, or required by insurance companies and risk managers, and frankly, make you a better ambulance driver.
I don't know Washington state, but there are generally a few courses open to the public in my area every year, but you sometimes need to call around-- try to ambulance companies, to see if their CEVO or EVOC courses are open to the public (they may open them, if nothing else, to bring in $$).

Good Luck!

You might want to check out the National Academy for Professional Driving. (http://www.napd.com). I know the EMT course I'm planning on includes that certification as part of their program. It is the same course that police officers are trained with. I don't see why you couldn't take it on your own though, if you can find a class near you.

CEVO is the more common (and uniformly taught) cousin of EVOC, and published by Coaching Systems, LLC. They have an online form of the course at http://coachingsystems.com/product.php?productid=16163&cat=252&page=

In fact, even at the in-person classes, the driving module is optional, and you receive a full course completion certification no matter the delivery form. Check out the online course, and see if it meets your needs...

Thats interesting. Ive been a CEVO instructor for close to 5 years and never even considered or realized that the driving portion was optional.

Im also a CEVO instructor, but away from my materials right now... I'll recheck, but I'm almost certain...

With that said, I've never taught it without the driving portion.... Is the "coaching" that is the most beneficial.
