Hello, I'm new to the forum and new to El Paso, Tx. I am interested in traing for EMT Basic but am curious about jobs here. Is it naive to assume that with just the basic training I would be able to find work pretty quickly? Also, I speak some spanish but am not bilingual, does that put me at a huge disadvantage? Thanks for any help.

Spanish is of great benefit but most will hire w/o. As to jobs EL Paso is very low paying. As a new basic you might be able to get on an IFT gig but even that is not definite. If you decide to get certified anyway get your Texas and your New Mexico certifications as it will give you more opportunities at the low paying jobs that are in the area.

Hasta.

Even having dual EMT-I certs (TX and NM) I couldn't get a job in EP. The market down there is flooded w/ new basics and medics. Finding work as a new basic anywhere right now is tough with most training programs putting out a new batch of 20+ at least every 6 months.
