Do you carry anything off duty?

I carry a few things in my truck.

A BLS Jump Kit, due to being a Vollie.

My gear bag for the First Aid Squad. Our squad does Extrication so I have all my extrication gear.

I also have a SAR Go bag for my SAR Organization.
 
On scenes my rule of thumb is to carry nothing and stand next to a well stocked newbie.. they have EVERYTHING!!!
 
Gloves once in a while.

But nothing normally.
 
Normally I have a fully stocked first aid kit, SAR/survival kit, change of clothes, full gore-tex suit, etc (stored in the minivan...yes, I drive one too!)

On my person, I'll usually have 2 or 3 knives, wallet, cell phone, watch, and my trusty paracord bracelet!
 
Usually I carry my Stethescope as a rearveiw mirror ornament. A small flashlight, BPcuff and some gloves. Of course I always wear my watch also.
 
I keep all my gear in my backpack, just for the sake of having it all in one place. Steth, BP cuff, CPR mask, a couple gloves, flashlight, might be a SAM splint in there from by Basic class, and a couple 4x4's...oh, and "Speedy Spanish for the Healthcare worker" :P

im just speculating here, but i would bet he means one of these:

they are made out of 550 parachute cord. this one was made for me by a dear friend and specialist in teh us army. its black and tan, one of my top three favorite beverages.

And what exactly does that do in regards to health care? Or does it just look cool?

absolutely nothing. infact, i rarely wear it on duty. its porous you see, so it could be a breading ground for all sorts of germs.

i was merely speculating as to the answer to bossycows question.
