combat medic getting out of the army.

SC feels that EMT-B doesn't learn enough in school to offer IV therapy. Can you do advanced airway? Combi, King, LMA?

IV is a separate class. I can do King tube.

Why medic or emt? with your experience in the army you could become a cop. Some places would even pay you while you are going to school.. Thats what I would do.. More jobs out there too.

BLET in my area is graduating hoardes of men and women and most of them are NOT getting jobs. That is the case here in western NC. Maybe not elsewhere???

yeah we do iv therapy, give/take blood, epi allll the time in the field, nitro sometimes, (not many cardiac pt's in the army) bgl from time to time. like i said we do much more then a civilian emt-b. and yes we do much more then trauma. or job is only really focused on trauma during deployment. when we are at our posts we work at an aidstation, basiclly rending family doctor level care. we learn about anything from a uri to fractures. i have given plenty of sutures and lanced many an abscess. i cant count how many times i have given iv's in the field for heat injurys. they dont ussually get as bad as stroke though. ussually 18G ac 1000ml lactated ringers or ns.

im going to be really :censored::censored::censored::censored:ing disapointed i can already tell. we always joke in the army, "what can emt's do? give o2."

Thanks for serving and welcome back to the civilian world. As a former Army combat medic I to had go through the same procedure. California would not accept my experience and had to attend EMT basic program. Let's see I have learned to suture, insert chest tubes and administer medications. Almost makes you want to stay in.

Good Luck

if i get 100% disability for my mtbi issues from two ieds i hit, i wont even work lol. 100% is 3k a month, not rich by any standards but enough for me to be lazy for a long time.

Don't waste your GI bill on paramedic class. Get a 4 year degree of your choice and pay for medic school out of pocket. Pm me for info on a good online paramedic program you can pay for 200$ a month.

...and this is different from EMS training how?

I concede.... No difference at all...BUT I will get a job. Got to network and believe! Thats why I'm here. Bash away. I can take it:D

Can I join your fan club? Love old salts that offer good direction. That's why I'm here. Making a 99 on a 12 chapter test tonight does not hurt my resume. I'm gunning for your credentials. Was aircrew in the Navy with over 800 hours in the air. Attended a 4 year university on the GI Bill. Made poor choices in classes. Young and had no one to offer good advice. Airborne troubleshooter. Been there done that. Want to do it again! I WILL GET A JOB!!!!!!!!

You just have to get used to USAF, he tends to be very blunt and some people don't handle it to well.

Thanks for the honesty and you are right. Lots of certs and not many jobs. I'll just keeping working a crappy job and keep on schooling until I get a foot in the door somewhere! What training does an RT receive and how long is the training? Maybe somewhere down the road for me? I just figured out what it meant a couple days ago. I'm ignorant to most of the Acronyms regarding qualifications, but starting to pic up a few.
Thanks again
