JOB TITLE
Per Diem Emergency Medical Technician
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for the provision of prehospital patient care in accordance with NJAC 8:40 and NJAC 8:40A. Shall be
responsible for the safe operation of all Clinton First Aid and Rescue Squad (CFARS) vehicles in accordance with current
New Jersey motor vehicle code.
REPORTS TO
Operations Chief
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: High school graduate
AGE: Must be at least 19 years of age
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of two (2) years experience as a certified EMT
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
1. Certification by the State of New Jersey (or NJ Office of EMS [NJOEMS]-approved equivalent) as an Emergency
Medical Technician- Basic
2. Valid motor vehicle operator’s license that is not under suspension or revocation
3. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification by a NJOEMS-approved accrediting agency
4. Current NIMS/ICS 100 and 200
5. Current NIMS I-700 and I-800
6. Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) certification
7. Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP) or equivalent
8. Certified in HAZ-MAT Awareness and Operations
9. Documented completion of Coaching the Emergency Vehicle Operator (CEVO)- Ambulance, Emergency Vehicle
Operations Course (EVOC) or approved equivalent
10. Vehicle Rescue Awareness level or approved equivalent. Allowable within six (6) months of employment
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Reports to work on time and ready to respond to calls.
2. Checks ambulance and ensures readiness for emergency response.
3. Safely responds to emergency calls for assistance.
4. Ensures the safety of the scene prior to entering.
5. The EMT-B determines the nature and extent of illness or injury and establishes priority for required emergency
care. The EMT-B renders appropriate emergency medical and/or trauma care.
6. Proper patient packaging and transfer to ambulance.
7. Safely transports patient and crew to receiving facility.
8. Provides verbal report to receiving facility staff
9. Records the assessment and emergency medical care of the patient at the emergency scene and in transit utilizing
written and/or electronic patient care report
10. Collects medical insurance information from patient or receiving facility
11. After each call cleans and restocks the ambulance.
12. Actively participates in quality assurance functions.
13. Performs routine station maintenance according to schedule.
14. Acts in a professional manner and uses good judgment in carrying out all job responsibilities.
15. Follows proper chain of command for conflict resolution.
16. Any other duties as assigned by a supervisor/ line officer.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Aptitudes required for work of this nature are good physical stamina, endurance, and body condition which would
not be adversely affected by lifting, carrying, and balancing at times, patients in excess of 125 pounds (250, with
assistance).
2. Ability to work 12-hour continuous shifts.
3. Motor coordination is necessary for the well-being of the patient, the EMT-B, and co-worker over uneven terrain.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Able to work weekdays from 0600 –1800 hours.
2. Must be able to read, speak, and write English sufficiently to perform duties.
3. Thorough knowledge of medical and trauma assessments, as well as appropriate BLS treatment protocols.
4. Ability to work effectively with supervisors, co-workers (compensated and non-compensated), other emergency
service personnel, and hospital staff.
5. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
