What should someone do who is not working in EMT field for their CEU's?

Go inactive with national registry unless you are trying to find work. Then just find a local recert class and take that. Some recert classes will also sign off on skills if they have a skills portion.

I do them online and then attend a day-long practical class at a for-profit EMS school.

It seems that there are an abundance of both online CEU providers and traditional brick and mortar schools.

I don't maintain my NREMT, as I haven't actively worked in years.
