So in New Jersey, if you become EMT-B(I) certified, do you stillhave to keep your EMT-B certification up to date or does the EMT-B(I) replace it?

(I) for instructor

When you called the NJ EMS department, what did they say?

Never called them. Figured I would give this forum a shot first.

I don't know if anyone on this forum works for the NJ EMS department.

Emt-b

Yes, you have to keep your Basic up even if you are an instructor. Meaning complete your CEUs and do your Core 13.

you need to maintain your EMT certification. what you don't have to do is attend the new refresher classes, as it's assumed that since you teach it, you already know the material. But you still need your elective CEUs.

and there is no NJ EMS department, you would need to direct your question to the NJ Dept of Health & Senior Services Office of Emergency Medical Services http://www.state.nj.us/health/ems/

This may be different in New Jersey, but in New York my EMT-B instructor was given CME's for teaching the class along with the skills instructors. He still had to recert, but it just made it easier
