If you're doing a lido or epi drip. Otherwise, do the math.

The formulas are simple. Learn whichever o e you can learn best and stick with it. They'll save your butt in The long run.

What he said. Make sure you check the concentration of the bag before you use a cheater method otherwise your tying your own knot in the noose.

Commit the time to learning how to calculate the concentration of the drug down to the mg/mL and you will be able to run a drip of any drug with any drip set.

If you only learn the tricks, when you get a drug you aren't familiar with, or a drip set that is not your usual, then you are up a river without a paddle.

Learn the theory behind the concept, and you will master the logistics of carrying out that task.

Thanks fellas... Yeah I just picked up tons of pharma books for emergency medicine an I'm gonna go above and beyond what is required bc its easier for me to get a grasp... My post was in reference to this mornings rideout.. I'm getting into the full paramedic clinicals, utilizing all concepts learned.. And was harassed by an old jaded fire medic .. The guy I guess was trying to embarrass me by showing he knew more and was highly more educated... He was convinced his drug cal method was superior to what I'm Being taught... I have an amazing professor ...and I'm gonna stick with what he teaches.. Sorry if this is a little confusing..I'm still on the unit.. Rocking and a rolling:)

That's ridiculous on your preceptor's part. What works for him may not work for you. If you have a system that you can do quickly and easily and get the correct answer that's all that matters.
