Boston's Walk for Hunger

Hey, who's up for doing the Walk on May 9th? I'll be running the same First Aid Station by the Elliot Church in Newton. Please come on out and help! I'll take people for any shifts.

Absolutely, I'm in! Can you email me some more info?
(you know the 9th is a Wednesday, right?)

Thanks!

LOL, Sunday May 6, not 9th. Hahaha. Thanks for catching that!

I'll PM you the info.

Scheduled to have the day off of work. Pending something popping up, I should be there.

Excellent. I got some folks from the PD also coming.

I never realized how long it actually was. Would help, but I let my MA-EMT lapse and have final exams.

EMT cert isn't required as all we're doing is first aid. EMS is being handled by various ambulance companies.

Don't forget- the walk is this Sunday! Who is joining me?

Update from this year's walk is coming soon. I laid down for a "nap" yesterday at 6pm and woke up today at 10am. Hahaha.

Here's the update from this year-

I got there at 6:30am. Note for next year, this is way early. Supplies came around 7:30ish as did the other main volunteers. Probably should show up around 7:15 next year.

Volunteers from the forum included emt.dan and nemedic. It was nice to meet emt.dan after several years chatting with him on the forum.

The weather was chilly and cloudy which was excellent for the walkers. We cut about 10,000 pieces of moleskin, passed out hundreds of band-aids, and told several dozen to take the bus. We had a few nosebleeds treated with ice packs and 4x4s. The last walkers passed by around 4:30 and I went home where I slept fro 6pm until 10am the next day. I think I was tired.

One day I'll be home for the Walk, I loved doing it in high school and it sounds like a great event to volunteer at!

The walk is looking for medical volunteers again this year. It's May 5th, and many at this forum have a friend coordinating a medical tent in Newton, MA, who is looking for some hands. If you're at all available on the 5th, shoot me a PM, and i'll put you in touch.
