Asking for a ride along.

Going to be moving to a hobby farm in a few months. The area is very rural and is cover by an ambulance service that is looking for on call medics. Should one ask for a ride along before or after putting in an application?

I would hate to get hired and find out this place is not for me. I am thinking of retiring from one of metro services I work for.

I would definitely ask for a ride along before applying I rode several times before applying for the rescue squad I joined.
