Applying before certification

I won't be getting my EMT-B cert for until early June, assuming that everything goes well and I'm sure it will. Should I bother applying for jobs before I have my cert in-hand, or will I just look stupid? I am asking because the job market here, like everywhere, is pretty thin and I want secure a position any way I can. Thoughts?

You are essentially useless until you have a cert, so I would suspect that ambulance companies (who seem to hire for their needs right this second) would not be interested until you have your cert in hand.

Don't let my opinion stop you, but with the number of EMTs out there, I'd just hire someone already licensed and able to start tomorrow.

Most companies I've dealt with will just toss your app if you aren't certified

Since there is a plethora of EMT candidates already certified looking for jobs and since most job postings list minimum requirements to apply which usually includes/states having your EMT certification, then yes it would be foolish and a waste of your time and theirs to apply for a job you are not even yet qualified for.
