Does anybody know of a 911 company that has an opening for a medic? I just finished medic school and am looking for a job anywhere!

Literally anywhere? That's an awfully big area with a lot of reciprocity requirements... Maybe narrow down your search a bit?

I agree all the licensing requirements and having to move would be a pain, but being a medic is something I truly want to do and I didn't go through school just to wait til a job opened up close by. I want to be a medic wherever I can as soon as I can.

I've seen listings in Texas, Colorado, OK, NM, NC, PA, MA, etc... you need to narrow it down. any experience prior to getting medic?

Year and a half working in an ER and some time as a volunteer FF. I've found listings in a bunch of places hiring medics but there almost always for non 911 transporting services

I think you are going about this backwards. There are medic jobs in all 50 states. You need to look at what you can do realistically. Your age, your experience/education level, your financial resources, if you have the NREMTP or not, etc.

Because of reciprocity issues it may be faster to wait for a job in your area than try and move. There are states with 3-5 month wait times for EMS certs to come through. It is very common that agencies don't hire under 21, and some don't hire under 25 due to insurance requirements.

You also have to face the reality that there is a good chance you will not get the job you want right away. If you refuse to take anything but a 911 transport job you may be in a long wait for a job.

Alot of those reasons that you pointed out is why I'm looking everywhere in the country. I'm 29 so no problem with age, but I live in California just outside of the Bay Area where its really hard to find a job and the ones that are around here are very competitive because of where they are and how good the pay is so with me not having alot of experience I can't expect to beat out the other applicants. So I need to find somewhere where reciprocity isn't a big issue and where I can be a 911 responder. Thats why my search is so broad.

How about narrowing down your options by picking a state that you'd actually want to live in? Or how about one with family/friends close by that can assist with your move?

Are you FF trained as well? That will broaden your places to go.

Yes I have FF training and I am willing to go to any state or at least willing to consider going any where. What I'm trying to do is cast a huge net, see what I can catch and then decide what's a keeper.

nothing worng with working at a transport service in the mean time, build up that resume.

Emsa-okc.

I heard REMSA might be hiring a couple more medics soon. They've hired quite a bit recently though so that may be outdated.

With no EMS experience they will usually have you work as an Intermediate for 3-6 months before putting you through Medic FTO time from what I hear.

Rural Metro/Bowers down in Socal

AMR Palm Springs

Hall Ambulance in Bakersfield

starting emt jobs

I have worked EMS in upstate NY for 11 years now. In my county most new medics either spend allot of time getting experience volunteering in the volunteer agencies or go work for one of the larger comercial EMS agencies such as Rural Metro. These agencies usually have a very high call volume and you can get experience fast. The draw back is they usually work you very hard and allot of the time you are playing taxi cab to the ED , hoping for serious calls. After working in a high call volume agency for a year or two then the medics would get jobs working in the smaller, community based agencies that are generally allot nicer to work at and dont have work out equipment. I am not in management in one of those agencies and to be honest, I wouldnt consider highering anyone without a year or two of experience. There is allot less work on our part if we hire someone who is experienced, can get the job done and survived doing the job for a couple of years. Also, where the commercial agencies just look for bodies to fill the ambulances, the smaller agencies look for people who would be a better fit for the group of people they have working there already. And since you are probly curious, the average new medic pay around here is between $9-11/hr, topping out at around $15 or so for non management positions. Needless to say there is competition for the hiring paying spots.

You're pretty much SOL unless you can wait 6+ months. The job market is crappy. Leave the state.

Thanks for the info, I'm applying to all these links.

If you're willing to move to arkansas, almost everyone is hiring, and if you get on at one of the higher paying agencies you can do ok considering the low cost of living. PM me if you want more info regarding ems in arkansas.
