I've been seeing a lot of repetitive questions about how to do something with the new forum, so I thought I'd post a Hitchhicker's Guide. I'll add to these as I come up with them, and answer any questions sent to me. Please make sure that you save all of your changes by clicking the appropriate button on the bottom of the page.

1. SMILIES: Go to your User CP and click edit options. At the bottom of the page, you'll find a box for Message Editor Inteface -> Choose either standard or enhanced. http://www.emtlife.com/profile.php?do=editoptions

2. SIGNATURE: The old html code for your signature lines doesn't work here, so please clean up the code from your sig line by going to User CP -> Edit Signature http://www.emtlife.com/profile.php?do=editsignature

3. CUSTOM USER TITLE: For those members over 500 posts, go to User CP -> Edit Profile. Under Custom User Title, enter your desired title. http://www.emtlife.com/profile.php?do=editprofile

4. TO VIEW USER POSTED IMAGES: Go to User CP -> Edit Options -> Thread Display Options -> Visible Post Elements. Choose which options you want enabled.

5. AVATAR: If you wish to use an avatar, go to User CP -> Edit Avatar and either upload your avatar or link to it using the options available. http://www.emtlife.com/profile.php?do=editavatar

6. PROFILE PICTURE: The same process as the Avatar settings, except you choose Edit Profile Picture. http://www.emtlife.com/profile.php?do=editprofilepic

Password Problems

The moderators have been receiving a lot of messages concerning the inability of members to change their password as they log on to the new forum.

If you are having this problem, please send an e-mail to moderators(at)emtlife.com

Please include your screen name in this e-mail. We will reset your password to something new and e-mail you a response. Log in with your new password and then do the following

1. Go to your User CP, located in the upper left corner. Click on Edit E-mail and Password http://www.emtlife.com/profile.php?do=editpassword

2. Enter your assigned password, then immediately change it.

3. If this works, please send a PM to the Admin/Mod that sent you the new password, so that we know everything worked.

I tried this but can't get the page to "uncheck" the show avatar to get to upload one. Any suggestions?

Forum Ranks

Here is a list of the forum ranks and the number of posts to achieve them.

Forum Ride Along - 0
Forum Probie - 10 - minimum for advertising
Forum Crew Member - 30
Forum Lieutenant - 100
Forum Captain - 250
Forum Asst. Chief - 500 - minimum for custom user title
Forum Deputy Chief - 1,000
Forum Chief - 5,000

How to post Pictures

There are two ways to post pictures.

1) While typing your post, click on the image icon (see below) and enter the URL of the image. This method requires that the image already be hosted on a site such as www.photobucket.com

If you wish to manually enter the image code, use the following format:{img}http://image url{/img} except that you must replace the { and } with [ and ]. Do not use < or >.

2) You may also include your image as an attachment using the "Attach Files" >>> "Manage Attachments" button.

3) You may also "hotlink" directly to the image by posting just the URL of the image. Such as
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v635/ffemt8978/sshot-1.jpg

If you use method #1 or #2, you are limited in the size of your files to 20000bytes with a resolution of 620x280.

Method #3 allows unlimited file size, and should be used for any graphic pictures.

As you can see, with the new upgrade to the vBulletin software, there is now an additional feature to allow users to quote multiple posts in their reply. In the lower right hand corner of their post, you will now see an icon that looks like a sheet of paper with quotation marks on it (the second from the right). Click this icon for each post that you want to quote, then click on "Post Reply". You will then have all of the posts that you marked quoted in your reply. If you are going to do this, please be nice to everyone else and clean up the quoted posts to only include the relevant portions, and not the entire post. This will be much easier for everyone to read and follow.

Also, another new feature is the ability to backtrace a quote. When a post is quoted in the reply, you will see a small blue icon to the right of the original posters name. Click that icon and it will take you to the original post.
